A bit of history

In 1880, various religious denominations, already present in the region of Way’s Mills, decided to regroup to build a Church that they can all share. The original group includes Baptists, Evangelical Adventists as well as Adventist Christians and Methodists.

Église Union de Way’s Mills

January 21, 1881, was the first official meeting between members of the new alliance. Already, members raised a sum of one thousand three hundred dollars in the surrounding countryside and villages, and Sarah Clifford donated the necessary land. On January 31 of the same year, they called upon Gilbert Moulton to establish plans for the future building. Contractors Charles Davis, Ozro and Riley Cass signed the construction contract on February 28. The consecration of the United Church of Way’s Mills took place on December 29, 1881. Over the years, founding communities and others in search of a place of worship continually used the Church. In 1925, the Congregation joined the United Church of Canada.

In 1998, the Union Church Corporation mandated the Way’s Mills Church Preservation Committee to negotiate grants with the Religious Heritage Foundation of the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications. The Committee entrusted the management of restoration work to the architect Pierre Cabana in 1998.
